Cave Creek Wash Trail

Underbelly of Phoenix

April, 2025 by asauls

I rode only the northern portion until I couldn’t take it anymore. Every underpass was a homeless encampment. Trash. garbage, etc blocked the trail and made it dangerous to ride. Not recommended.

New River Trail

unexpectedly good trail in Phoenix

We parked at Rio Vista Community Park. Beautiful Park. Lots of people and parking. From the Park you can also access Skunk Creek Trail which we got on by accident for a few miles but then turned around and came back and got the New River Trail. We did the section on both sides of the river (dry! lol) but quite a few beautiful Palo Verde trees along the trail. Will go back and head further south from the park towards Sun City. Nice trail with no street crossing interruptions.

New River Trail

Really enjoyed this trail. Close to our resort and easy access. Not busy during the week. Well marked, going again today.

Nice overall, but could use some repair and better trail markings. Great length.

Take the right fork to continue onto Iron King Trail.

Prescott Peavine National Recreation Trail

disappointing trail conditions

February, 2024 by marthaallyn

After reading the reviews for this trail, we were surprised at the very lose gravel (?) and excessive mud. We were riding on a warm (mid-50s) day following a snowfall the week prior. The first 3.5 miles from the trailhead off of Prescott Lake parkway offered interesting views and geological features. The next 2 miles was in an area being developed for homes. Nothing special despite the signage talking about the loss of prairie habitat. We should have taken the left fork onto Iron King Trail.

Skunk Creek Trail

path poorly marked

Rio Vista Community Park a great hidden gem in the city. Path poorly marked, ended up zigzagging back to be on the correct path.

Arizona Canal Path

Caution West of Hatcher Road

June, 2023 by desertkahuna

I love biking the canal systems.
I entered at 56th street just across the street from the 56th hydro power plant (this is really cool place to stop stretch and read some history).
The bike under passes were fine until 27th ave and there were two transients but easily passed. The I 17 underpass was a different story.
I got 1/4 down the slope and the entire tunnel was blocked with transients. There was no way to bike safely through. At this point I turned around and went on in another direction.

Skunk Creek trail

Decided to take my sister and her friend on this path. Had some difficulty finding the park with which to start. Got on the path and found it confusing, with no signs and then found several places where we had to cross major streets with no crossing area,,,so pretty dangerous. Not a well marked path.

West Skip Rimsza Paseo Trail

one of our favorites in PHX

10 mile out and back. Apache wash trailhead in the middle. This is rarely busy, scenic and has some shoot offs if you’re a mountain biker or gravel biker.

Skunk Creek Trail

good path

We’ll kept one turn was in marked but not hard to meet back up with trail . Did see a lot of homeless men under bridges and camped in bushes. Was not crowded the day we went so it was very calming ride.
